When we done Cyanotypes we used art and design paper , and painted over with blue paint so it makes it light sensitive. we went outside and collected objects anything we could fine to make a good composition.I chose scissors a film a light bulb and string, i put the objects on and didn't move them as it will be shown if i have moved it, we put the objects and left them for 3-5 minuets. When the time was up we carefully moved the objects and where the objects was placed was a white mark and the rest or the paper blue. We went up to the room and we had to rinse it under water, and as it was developing under water it was coming out clearer. Many people moved theirs' which came up after on the paper and we left it to dry .
My movie string didn't show as the wind was blowing the string but to achieve the experiment your items have to be still, but all the other objects turned out fine except the light bulb as it was not flat so it wouldn't have all the detail.Unlike photographs set in silver, like in black and white photography, cyanotypes are using a solution of iron compounds. You can use any objects but to make a good composition you need to figure out where the objects could be placed before putting them on as you don't wont to mess up your work as you want it to be done at a best standard. My cyanotype has not come out very well as my other objects i used did not come out so if they did it would of been better but i think my other objects was to light so it wouldn't of been enough pressure to mark the object on the paper.
what you will need to make the cyanotype:
This is very easy to make and is fascinating to find out how your work turned out and what you can improve on to make your work even better than before. At least when you try and try again to find what you have done well and what you would improve on.

what you will need to make the cyanotype:
- 25 grams of Ferric ammonium citrate (green)
- 10 grams of Potassium ferricyanide
- Water (distilled if possible)
- Scale or measuring spoons
- Measuring jug
- 3 glass containers for mixing ingredients
- Plastic spoons
- Face mask (DIY style)
- Goggles
- Rubber gloves
- Apron or old shirt
- Newspaper to cover work surface
- Cleaning cloth
- Brushes or coating rod
- Clothes pegs (plastic)
- Washing line or rope (plastic)
- Art paper or fabric for coating

This cynotype does not have a lot of objects on it so it doesn't look busy. If you put more objects on it your able to be interested on it , but not to make it to busy. If just one object is very simple, dull, but might has a meaning to it. With this object its harder if you wanted to get the blowing effect, and as if their is wind out side its harder to create a nice and gentle effect. If you did want it to turn out like an blowing effect you would need to arrange the object different creating something un expected. Its all in focus as its in the center of the middle and not all over the place. The composition is alright but its not been arranged that well as it didn't take that long to put together or to arrange the cyanotype.
Anna Atkins
Anna Atkins was born March 16, 1799,and died on June 9th 1871. Anna Atkins was a English photographer noted for her early use of photography for scientific purposes. This publication was one of the first uses of light-sensitive materials to illustrate a book the book's handwritten text and illustrations were created by the cyanotype method. She printed part one of the published book, printing all of the pages as a cyanotype.. Anna Atkins learned directly about the invention of photography.Anna Atkins is said to had been the first woman to create a photograph. Her mother died while Anna Atkins was an infant, which made her particularly close to her father , and shared his scientific interests. Anna Atkins learned directly about the invention of photography through her correspondence with its inventor, William Henry Fox Talbot. Although she owned a camera, she used only the cameraless photogenic drawing technique to produce all of her botanical images. Anna Atkins learned the cyanotype printing method through its inventor, the astronomer and scientist Sir John Herschel, a family friend.

These cyanotypes are really good and look like it has been thought about very well, these objects used in these cyanotypes looks like it has been used in a sunny day where there is no wind as you cant see any smudges from where the objects where moving or any marks from where the person has moved it. The composition is good as its all been arranged good its been arranged in a good way as it makes it look good and its makes it all be in focus.

These cyanotypes have used the same objects but different contrast. The paper colour is different which is good as to see the different effects it gives. Then it would be to types of cyanotype then you could tell and see the different.
These cyanotype hasn't used to much objects but could of used more but overall the composition is really good. The composition is good in these cyanotypes as its been arranged so it doesn't make it look busy which is good so you can get a clear understanding of what is in the cyanotypes. |
